Hi debian gurus.

I'm running a relatively fresh install of debian lenny xfce, and have a problem with ssh-add.
When I run ssh-add from an xterm I get the following error:

Quote:
Could not open a connection to your authentication agent.

If I use a normal virtual console it works fine. Also, after I run ssh-agent bash
I can use ssh-add in that particular xterm.

I guess it has something to do with the ssh-agent not being started correctly when X starts.

However when I check with pstree the ssh-agent should be started correctly:

├─gdm───gdm─┬─Xorg───Xorg
│ └─x-session-manag───ssh-agent

Well, I just installed Debian (twice, as I had this problem the first time and thought I might have broken it after the installation), and no pages or repositories will load except Google (including searches, videos, etc.) and one other site I can't tell you about because it's a private chat server on the same internet company as me. Edit: I also managed to connect to ramblestrip.com, blogger.com (apparently hosted by Google), and blogsource.com. Traceroute works for the sites that work, but it shows asterisks (timeouts) in some rows when trying to get to the sites that don't work. I tried using both Epiphany and Iceweasel with the same results. Anyway, all pages load fine on every Windows computer on the network--including the one I installed Linux on. Pinging works for all sites.

In this tutorial, explore the Eclipse C Development Tooling (CDT) project and how it allows you to work with C- and C++-based projects. Furthermore, learn how to install open source tools to help develop native applications for the iPhone platform on Windows and Linux, and learn about the source code of a basic iPhone application in Objective-C.

When it comes to security, remember that in addition to actual platform and operating system security issues, you need to ensure that you write your application to be secure. These seven habits for writing more secure PHP Web applications will help you avoid becoming an easy victim of malicious attacks. Like many habits, they may seem awkward at first, but they become more natural as time goes on

Application Level Events (ALE) allows a client application to submit questions about Electronic Product Code (EPC) read events to a network of reader points. In most cases, read points will be Radio Frequency Identification readers. The main benefit of ALE is facilitation of application development that relies on EPC data input for making business decisions. Without a mechanism such as ALE, access to a network of readers would be a tedious task.

This tutorial provides step-by-step instructions on how to install VMware Server 2 on an Ubuntu 8.04 desktop system. With VMware Server you can create and run guest operating systems (virtual machines) such as Linux, Windows, FreeBSD, etc. under a host operating system. This has the benefit that you can run multiple operating systems on the same hardware which saves a lot of money, and you can move virtual machines from one VMware Server to the next one (or to a system that has the VMware Player which is also free).

Hi All
I am trying to make a local debian archive mirror using the
anonftpsync script got from http://www.debian.org/mirror/ftpmirror for my local network.
The exact script I am using for making the rsync mirror is given at
end of post. It basically is expected to run rsync for whichever
architectures I want. I just want the i386 and amd64 architectures to
be mirrored.
The script runs very slowly and later gives error and stops.

This is the error I get:-
contrib/n/netbeans-ide/netbeans-ide_6.0.1+dfsg-2_all.deb
rsync: writefd_unbuffered failed to write 4092 bytes: phase "unknown"
[generator]: Connection reset by peer (104)
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(1099)
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (171375026 bytes received so

i just installed Debian 5.0 i received from LINUX MAGAZINE as a dual-boot with windows xp which but am unable to connect wireless to the internet. i need help with this.

One of the best sources for geographical information for users and developers is a shining example of the power of open data. I am a new linux user and I just finished instaling dvd 1 from the image I recieved from the debian ftp server. I also have the other 2 DVD images burned form the site but can't figure out how to use them. the basic interface and the grub loader installed fine, but when I put in the other DVD's, nothing happens and none of the contents seem to do anything. are these just packages that I can't seem to startup or another part of the OS that need to be installed? I don't have my network adapter working yet so I can't connect to the internet with my debian box to updat so I'm stuck using these disks.

I've just SUPPOSEDLY upgraded from the final iteration of debain 4 Etch to Lenny

The Etch system ran like a dream, but Lenny limps, rather than runs, with all the speed of cold treacle

What seems to be happening is that when I attempt to run a prog, such as Iceweasel, IOWait grabs the vast majority of the CPU cycles, pushing application software processes to one side!

Any suggestions of how this might be resolved please?

TIA

Hello,

I have been trying for several days to either find a package or successfully compile PHP 5.1.6 on my lenny box. I have a web application that has considerable problems running on a 5.2.x install of php but it is known to work on 5.1.x series. Does anyone know of any pre-built packages or ./configure recipe known to work with this install.

Thanks a lot,
Nick

I've tried to change my refresh rate in xorg.conf (per instructions found in another post). I need it to be 60hz but it continues to stay at 85. I made the change by using sudo gedit and the xorg.conf definitely has 60 in the vertrefresh entry.

Obviously, I'm a newbie doing something wrong. Can someone help me?

VMware Inc. released an OpenSource version of their VMware-Tools, called open-vm-tools. While they’re quite easy to install on Gentoo (emerge open-vm-tools), it’s not that easy having them installed on a Debian Etch (4.0) if you want to go the proper way.

This guide explains how you can install the Google Android SDK 1.0 on an Ubuntu 8.04 desktop. With this stable release of the Android SDK, you can now develop applications for Android smartphones (like T-Mobile's G1) and offer them on the Android Market.

Ok, maybe there are living persons here which could help me with this.

I recently got in the situation where I need to modify some olde fortan 77 code. I never coded in fortran before (I heard that snicker!!! I know, I know, stop it!)
and quickly got furious with Their Attrocity - COMMON blocks. Now, my solution to tackling that horrid stuff is to just put them in a separate file and include in whichever other unit needs them. This way, if I need to add another variable, I make the change only in that separate include COMMON file and this change is automatically everywhere I want it to be.

But, is this considered to be a good style? Any hidden death-traps? Anybody still remembers his/hers fortran?

This was adapted (and abridged) from an Ubuntu forum solution. It works!!!
