How do you defeat the anti-spam measures that use images? Simple - have software that streams the images to people sitting at keyboards and who will type in the passphrases for some reward. Why should a spammer sit at the keyboard and type when there are so many people on the internet who would do it?

I've often wondered how long it would be before people set up companies paying pennies to poor English-speaking Indians or Pakistanis to do something similar.

But this method is even more "ingenious" -- why pay Indians pennies when you can con clueless Americans into doing the same thing for free?!?
